How Laser Dentistry Can Help You.

Fotona LightWalker is a minimally invasive, high-performance laser we use to preserve as much of your natural tissue as possible when performing various treatments. Dr. Van Gorden and Dr. Steinbach can use the laser for:

  • Cavity preparation
  • Removal of lesions
  • Direct pulp capping (an alternative to root canal therapy)
  • Tissue sealing
  • Modification of dentin and enamel
  • Sleep apnea care

Keep reading to learn more specifically how our dentists use the Fotona LightWalker for several procedures.

Dental Implants
Dental Implants

The Fotona Lightwalker makes precise incisions and tissue removal easier, helping our dentists place your implants with greater accuracy. We can also use the laser to treat infected tissue and repair damaged bone around the implant, preventing peri-implantitis. This treatment is known as TwinLight.

Oral Surgery
Oral Surgery

In addition to dental implants, the Fotona LightWalker helps our dentists perform faster, safer treatments for many other oral surgery procedures including frenectomies and oral lesion removal.

Unlike traditional surgery, laser surgical treatment doesn’t always require a scalpel or sutures, allowing you to recover faster with little to no discomfort.

One field of dentistry that especially benefits from our Fotona laser is periodontics. While traditional gum surgery typically requires a lengthy and uncomfortable healing period, laser surgery allows you to recover almost immediately and completely pain-free.

This is because the laser can target infected gum tissue with unmatched precision, leaving your healthy tissue intact and preventing the need for stitches.

Sleep Apnea
Sleep Apnea

The Fotona LightWalker is so versatile that our dentists can even use it for snoring and sleep apnea treatment. NightLase is a non-invasive laser treatment that can reduce snoring and symptoms of sleep apnea, helping you sleep soundly through the night.

The procedure is designed to contract and strengthen your airway muscles to prevent any obstructions in your breathing while you sleep.

Cosmetic Laser Treatments

Dr. Steinbach and Dr. Van Gorden can also use this advanced technology to provide a variety of cosmetic treatments to enhance your appearance and boost your confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can any dentist perform laser treatments?

Is laser dentistry painful?

Laser dentistry is virtually painless, but Dr. Van Gorden or Dr. Steinbach may use one of our sedation dental solutions to ensure you’re as comfortable as possible during the procedure.

Is laser dentistry covered by insurance?

Many of the procedures that we perform with our Fotona laser are covered by dental insurance. However, the laser technique itself typically isn’t covered by insurance. This means that, in most cases, choosing laser therapy for a procedure will add to your overall cost. However, the long-term benefits will pay off over time.

How long does it take to heal from laser dental procedures?

For the first week following your laser treatment, we recommend eating softer foods and avoiding chewing in the location of the procedure.

Depending on the severity of the issue, it generally takes two to four weeks to completely heal. While you may resume normal brushing, we advise you to proceed gently and carefully during your healing process.

Can any dentist perform laser treatments?

In order to offer laser dentistry, a dentist needs to complete training programs using laser technology. A certification in laser dentistry is a good indication that a dentist has mastered the field and can be trusted with the safety of your smile.

Both of our dentists have many years of experience working with dental lasers, so you can feel totally confident going into your treatment.
