Dental Crowns

Restoring Your Smile

When your tooth sustains damage, it’s important to treat it as soon as possible. Untreated tooth decay can lead to lifelong dental problems such as permanent loss of teeth and periodontal disease. Dr. Steinbach recommends dental crowns to protect, restore, and strengthen your teeth.

At Elevate Dental Wellness, we provide high-quality porcelain crowns that blend into your smile, giving it a more natural appearance.

How Dental Crowns Can Help You

Dental crowns fit on top of your affected teeth to cover the hollow spaces caused by cavities and protect your tooth from further damage. Dr. Steinbach may recommend these tooth-colored caps if a cavity has grown too large for regular dental fillings, to replace decayed enamel, or to repair chipped, cracked, or broken teeth.

They may be used in other treatments as well such as:

  • Dental bridges
  • Dental Implants
  • Root canals

Benefits of Dental Crowns
Benefits of Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are made of a durable acrylic resin or porcelain material that prevents bacteria and food from reaching your enamel and causing further decay. They protect any exposed parts of the roots of your teeth to prevent pain and serve as an effective long-term treatment.

You won’t have to feel self-conscious about your smile because dental crowns can be color-matched to your natural tooth color, giving your tooth a more natural look.

Placing Your Dental Crown

Dental crowns are used in different types of restorative procedures, so the process of placing them can look a bit different. Generally speaking, if your tooth is being repaired with a dental crown, it can be placed in just two appointments.

Your Permanent Dental Crown

Consultation

Before we take any action, Dr. Steinbach will conduct a thorough consultation. We’ll thoroughly clean your teeth of decay and debris as well as examine your teeth, making sure to treat any underlying oral health issues.

Dr. Steinbach will prepare your tooth to receive the crown and take an impression of your teeth which will allow us to make a customized crown just for you. We will provide you with a temporary crown until your next appointment.

Your Permanent Dental Crown

At your second appointment, when your custom crown is ready, we’ll do another cleaning, and Dr. Steinbach will ensure that your crown is firmly in place using a dental-grade adhesive. Once it hardens, you’ll be able to leave with your smile and your confidence restored.

How long do dental crowns last?

In general, dental crowns can last between five and fifteen years but can last even longer with proper maintenance. There are a couple of factors to be considered in order to preserve the longevity of your crowns:

  • Oral hygiene: keeping a consistent oral hygiene routine by brushing, flossing, and rinsing after meals. This will protect your natural tooth from further decay.
  • Oral habits: things like clenching or grinding your teeth can put a strain on your dental crown. Eating too many hard food items such as hard candy can also strain your dental crown.

What should I do if my crown gets damaged?

If your dental crown sustains damage, it’s important that you do not attempt to fix it yourself. Keep the crown in a safe place and schedule an appointment with Dr. Steinbach by calling (970) 279-5647.
